“Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house” (12:10). Because David had been given enormous responsibility and blessing from the Lord, the consequences of his sin were also enormous. His kingdom would not remain unified, and his own family would splinter apart (ch 13). However, because of God’s great mercy, when David truly repented, the prophet Nathan told him: “The LORD also has put away your sin; you shall not die” (12:13).
“I have sinned against the LORD” (12:13). The only way out of David’s disaster was through embracing truth, repentance, and God’s mercy. God’s greatest gift is not restoring our possessions or reputation, but offering forgiveness.
