Acts 5

"How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord?” (v9).  The new faith community of Jesus-followers was unique because God’s Spirit moved among them.  Other religious communities might share their possessions and preach morality, but the early church was marked by the resurrection life of the Spirit, overflowing in miracles, preaching, and other signs.  When Ananias and Sapphira lied about their charitable donation, they were testing the reality of God’s presence among the people.  

“And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him” (v32).
