“And he lay down and slept under a broom tree. And behold, an angel touched him and said to him, "Arise and eat” (19:5). Elijah was exhausted after his spectacular showdown with the prophets of Baal (ch 19). God had won, and the rain had returned, but now Queen Jezebel was threatening Elijah’s life (19:2). Elijah had no strength left, so God sent angels to help him rest and eat. Then God Himself spoke to Elijah in a “low whisper” (19:12), giving him a new assignment.
Even the prophet Elijah got tired. When our strength runs low, Jesus says to us, “Come and have breakfast” (John 21:12). He has everything we need for our own life assignment.
