“May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us, that your way may be known on earth, your saving power among all nations” (v1-2). This beautiful prayer sums up the hope of Israel’s covenant with God: that through Israel’s blessing, “all nations” would come to know God’s saving power. And in the day when God’s rule and presence fill the earth, the nations will “be glad and sing for joy,” and we will know real justice (v4) and fruitfulness (v6).
Jesus the Messiah of Israel is still extending God’s saving power to all nations. In everything, we are called to live as citizens of his present and future kingdom.
