“Go your way; behold, I am sending you out as lambs in the midst of wolves” (v3). Jesus continued to teach the disciples how, exactly, they should follow him and join in his ministry. Just as he sent out the twelve (9:1), he sent out the seventy-two (10:1), and his instructions made it clear that their ministry should be similar to his. Not with worldly power, money, and position, but like “lambs,” trusting in nothing but the gospel (v4). They would have power to heal and proclaim the truth (v9), yet they would be persecuted.
If we want to help build Jesus’ kingdom, we must beware of using the world’s methods and means. “As the Father sent me, so I send you.” (John 20:21)
