“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (v1). The same God who rules the universe is our own “very present help.” We may experience sudden disruptions, like mountains crashing into the sea and the“roar and foam” of trouble, but we remain firmly rooted in God’s love. We are citizens of the holy city (v4-5), and therefore we walk in God’s presence now and wait confidently for a better future. One day, all weapons will be broken and wars will cease (v9).
“Be still, and know that I am God” (v10). We are safe in the care of the One who made us, loves us, and fights our battles for us.
