“Then Micah said, “Now I know that the Lord will prosper me, because I have a Levite as priest” (17:13). When all Israel was doing “what was right in their own eyes,” and there was no temple, families created their own sources of power and protection. Micah had set up his own family religion and idols and “ordained” a Levite as priest. He did not worship the One God; instead, he was seeking personal power. The Danite tribe (ch 18) eventually stole his priest, idols, and money.
When our main goal is to protect ourselves and our resources, we are vulnerable to disaster. When we live generously, courageously, aiming to please God above all else, He sustains us.
