“This I know, that God is for me” (v9). The belief that God was on his side, not against him, kept the psalmist anchored during the times when it did not look like God’s favor was with him. Very real struggles and attacks from enemies had brought him to the point of fear, sleepless nights, and tears (v3, v8). Yet he trusted in his Deliverer (v13) and had learned what to do in these moments: “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you” (v3).
In God’s presence, we discover that His love, mercy, and power are more than enough. “In God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?” (v4, v11).
