“Will you make a full end of the remnant of Israel?” (11:13). Israel’s situation was terrible; many people had already gone into exile. False prophets talked about “peace” (13:10), but God’s wrath was about to fall, because the people had “taken their idols into their hearts” (14:3). However, God promised that He would not totally destroy Israel; at the right time, He would do something new for them and the world.
God promised to deal with the problem of sin at the heart-level, at great cost to Himself. “I will give them one heart, and a new spirit I will put within them … they shall be my people, and I will be their God” (11:19).
