“Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his hosts! Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars!” (v2-3). The psalmist had an expansive view of God as Lord of all creation, not just his own helper. Too much self-focus can cause us to lose joy and perspective, and so we need reminding that we are part of God’s great universe: “great sea creatures and all deeps, fire and hail, snow and mist, stormy wind fulfilling his word!” (v7-8). Our own voices of praise join the chorus always going on (v11-12).
“For he commanded and they were created” (v5). When we realize that God is the center of everything, not ourselves, we are filled with joy and praise.
