"On that day there shall be a fountain opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness” (13:1). As Zechariah preached against sin, he also glimpsed God’s plan of salvation. He spoke of “that day:” a day of judgment and a day of salvation, when Israel would be full of “a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy” (12:10), and “living waters shall flow out from Jerusalem” (14:8).
Several hundred years later, Jesus stood in Jerusalem and proclaimed “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink” (John 7:37). Living water is found only in the person of Jesus Christ, who cleanses us from sin and satisfies our thirst.
