"We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and we are rebuilding the house that was built many years ago” (v11). Trouble-makers in the province around Judah (now a colony of Persia) had sent letters back to the emperor, charging that the Jews were stirring up rebellion by rebuilding their city and temple. The Jewish leaders respectfully described what they were doing, with permission from Cyrus, and they identified themselves as “servants of the God of heaven and earth.”
Our core identity is that we are redeemed sons and daughters of God through Jesus Christ. When we live to bring honor to our Father, all earthly responsibilities and relationships fall into place.
