"The LORD records as he registers the peoples, "This one was born there" (v6). In biblical language, Zion (another name for Jerusalem) symbolizes the place where we live together in fellowship with God. This is a place established by God Himself (v5), where citizenship is determined only by our relationship with Him. No matter where on earth we are from (“Rahab and Babylon; behold, Philistia and Tyre, with Cush” were foreign lands, v4), we can all be born in Zion.
“The LORD loves the gates of Zion … the city of God” (v2-3). We know the Way to this beautiful community where God dwells among His people; through Jesus Christ, we enter and find our true home.
