"Steadfast love will be built up forever; in the heavens you will establish your faithfulness” (v2). When the present looked dark and difficult, the psalmist clung to God’s “forever” faithfulness (v4). Even though the Old Testament believers didn’t have a fully formed idea of life after death, they knew that God Himself is eternal and all-powerful, and therefore His promises are enduring (v6-8). He is in charge of the heavens and the earth (v11), and yet He is also our Father and the Rock of our salvation (v26).
With all the saints, we trust that the difficulties of “this present time” (Romans 8) will pass, and God’s steadfast love will be victorious (v49).
