I Corinthians 14

“What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up” (v26).  Paul urged the believers to cultivate spiritual gifts that blessed one another, such as prophecy.  Prophecy, in Paul’s Jewish worldview, was not primarily about the future, but instead about declaring God’s ways and character and calling people to greater obedience: “for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation” (v3).

“When you come together” (v26).  As one body and one family, when we gather in Christ’s name and submit to His authority, His Spirit is present for good.
