“There will be a booth for shade by day from the heat, and for a refuge and a shelter from the storm and rain” (4:6). God’s desire was to be the provider and refuge for His people, the source of abundant life. Instead, like all humans, they turned to other sources to satisfy their needs. Isaiah condemned the Israelites for a culture of violence, for buying up property and making others homeless, and for indulging in senseless drinking parties (5:7-23). All the while, God offered salvation.
“Then shall the lambs graze as in their pasture” (5:17). Trying to save ourselves always ends in disaster. When we follow Shepherd of our souls, we find the abundant life we desire.
