“I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears” (38:5). Just as King Hezekiah went to God on behalf of his whole nation (36:37), he also went to God for the sake of his personal health. God mercifully responded and gave him fifteen more years to live; unfortunately, Hezekiah’s good health and temporary peace did not bring out the best in him. He bragged to foreign leaders (ch 39) and didn’t concern himself with his children’s future (39:8).
“Oh restore me to health and make me live!” (38:16). The real test of spiritual maturity is whether we seek the Lord as much in times of peace and prosperity as we do in times of urgent need.
