“Every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols, for his images are false, and there is no breath in them. They are worthless, a work of delusion” (10:14-15). Jeremiah described how ridiculous it was that people cut down trees, carved the wood, and decorated these images with silver and gold and called them “gods” (v3-8). Ignoring the Creator, humans still make idols out of things, ideas, and experiences – all “delusions” that can’t satisfy our deepest desires.
Rather than wasting our lives chasing the false gods of our own desires, we have the privilege of knowing and serving our Creator. “It is He who made the earth by his power, who established the world by His wisdom” (10:12).
