Jeremiah 23-25

"For twenty-three years … I have spoken persistently to you, but you have not listened” 25:3).  Jeremiah had been speaking God’s truth for 23 years, warning people about the sins of adultery (23:10), oppressing the poor, and idolatry, but they refused to listen. In fact, false prophets and priests had distracted the people by lies, saying “I have dreamed, I have dreamed!” (23:25), instead of calling them to obedience.   Therefore, foreign armies were about to destroy Jerusalem.

"Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture!" (23:1).  Leaders are human and will fail, but we have a Good Shepherd who guides, protects, provides, and “lays down his life for his sheep” (John 10:11).
