Thessalonians 4

“For this is the will of God, your sanctification” (v3).  Paul’s letters urge believers to continue on toward maturity in Christ, to “please God … more and more” (v1).  As adopted sons and daughters, God’s Spirit helps us to grow more like Him in holiness (v4,7).  Holiness begins in the heart and is demonstrated in our behavior, especially sexual purity (v3-6), kindness (brotherly love, v9), and faithful work (v11).  As we also mature in our understanding (v13-14), we are comforted by the truth of the resurrection.

“Therefore encourage one another with these words” (v18).  We can be encouraged that God who saved us is also working in us, transforming us for our good and His glory.
