Genesis 49

“The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet … to him shall be the obedience of the peoples” (v10).  Jacob’s prophecy over his sons reached far into the future.  He spoke of Judah’s own choices (he had emerged as a leader when the brothers went to Egypt) and his descendants, all the way to “the Ruler” Jesus Christ (Matt 2:6).  Levi, Joseph, Benjamin – each brother’s life was unique but also affected generations.
“I wait for your salvation, O Lord” (v19).  God used Jacob (Israel) and his descendants to bring salvation to the world; He is still using each one of us to make His glory known.
