Exodus 37

“Bezalel made the ark of acacia wood … And he overlaid it with pure gold inside and outside, and made a molding of gold around it” (v1-2).  The “ark” or special box inside the Most Holy Place was spectacularly beautiful, including the golden, winged angelic creatures which hovered over it.  The Israelites knew that the whole earth was the Lord’s, yet He dwelled here in a special way; the high priest only entered this Presence once a year to make atonement for all Israel.

Hebrews tells us that Jesus Christ “entered once for all into the holy places … by means of his own blood” (Heb 9:12), making atonement for us, so that we can freely enter God’s presence.
