I Kings 9

“But if you turn aside from following me … and do not keep my commandments and my statutes …, but go and serve other gods and worship them … this house will become a heap of ruins” (v6).  The Lord promised to set His “eyes and heart” (v3) on Jerusalem’s Temple, as long as His people remained faithful to Him.  God wanted the world to see His glory in Israel so that all nations would serve Him; idolatry and corruption could not accomplish that (v9).  Solomon’s magnificent accomplishments were to point to God Himself.

As His redeemed people, God calls us to “integrity of heart and uprightness” (v4), so that His name will be glorified through us.
