I Kings 11

“For when Solomon was old his wives turned away his heart after other gods, and his heart was not wholly true to the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father” (v4). God had given Israel peace under Solomon’s rule, but Solomon brought Israel’s enemies into his own household.  His harem (1000 or more) included women from the idolatrous tribes Israel had fought, and Solomon soon adopted their pagan worship.  His disobedience cost his descendants the kingdom (v11).

“Solomon clung to these in love” (v2).  Solomon allowed other loves to destroy his relationship with God.  God deserves our first love and highest loyalty.
