II Kings 13

“Now when Elisha had fallen sick with the illness of which he was to die, Joash king of Israel went down to him and wept before him …” (v14).  The kings of Israel were mostly evil and idolatrous, including Joash (v11).  However, when the prophet Elisha was dying, King Joash realized that he was about to lose his kingdom’s most trustworthy and powerful man of God.  He went and begged Elisha for one last sign from God.

“But the LORD was gracious to them and had compassion on them, and he turned toward them … and would not destroy them” (v23).  God hears the sincere cry of each person; He is “slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love” (Ex 34:6).
