“Yet now I urge you to take heart, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship” (v22). Through no fault of their own, Paul and his companions had a rough journey on the ship bound for Rome. Even before the terrible storm, Luke reports that the “the winds were against us” and they sailed “with difficulty” (v4,8). Paul and the other prisoners had no power; the captain ignored Paul’s advice. Nevertheless, God promised Paul that he and the others would arrive safely.
“Do not be afraid, Paul …” (v24). Many life circumstances are outside our control, yet we don’t give in to fear. God is able to get us safely to our destination.
