“We also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation” (v11). Paul says we can also rejoice in “the hope of the glory of God” (v1) and “our sufferings” (v3). All this rejoicing is because we are secure in the present: our relationship with God has been repaired by Christ, and the Spirit has poured God’s love into our hearts (v5). And, despite suffering, our future is good: we won’t face God’s wrath (v9), and we will participate in Jesus’ resurrection life (v10).
“But God shows His love for us …” (v8). If God gave His Son when we were His enemies, we can trust Him for our present and our future.
