Romans 7:1-13

“But now we are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code” (v6).  Paul makes the case that the law was righteous, yet it led to frustration and death because we couldn’t really obey it (v8).  The law showed us what God’s holiness looks like and where we fail, but it could not bring real life (v7, v13).

Now we are called to “serve in the new way of the Spirit,” not focusing on laws but on walking closely with God, who lives in us by His Spirit.
