“For they were men of great ability” (v6). Chronicles tells of the thousands of Levites who were assigned to different divisions of labor within the Temple complex. They were security guards (v12), advisors (v14), financial specialists (v26), officers and judges (v29), and administrators (v32). The Levites were all holy, set apart to God to keep the Temple worship, teaching, and sacrificial system going. They were also a tribe without their own land because they represented all Israel.
The Levites managed “everything pertaining to God” (v32), and their work was holy. We too, having become God’s Temple and bearers of His Spirit (Eph 2), are called to consider our own work as holy and dedicated to the Lord.
