Isaiah 28

“Behold, the Lord has one who is mighty and strong; like a storm of hail, a destroying tempest” (v2). Isaiah said that when God’s justice is either a destroying tempest or a welcome crown of beauty (v5). Israel, like all humanity, had made “a covenant with death” (v15), trying to deal with mortality on their own terms. But Isaiah said that when God comes, lies and false hopes are exposed and negotiations with death are “annulled” (v17-18).

"Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion …a precious cornerstone” (v16). When Jesus is the sure foundation of our lives, we don’t need to fear God’s judgment, or death. He is our unshakeable refuge.
