“Make the tabernacle with ten curtains of finely twisted linen and blue, purple and scarlet yarn …” (26:1). The “tabernacle” or sacred tent which the Lord commanded the Israelites to create was composed of many elaborate pieces. Embroidered curtains hung on the inside, covered by animal skins for protection (27:14), all hung on wooden frames (26:15). Inside was an ark of acacia wood and gold, golden cherubim, altar and lamps (ch 25). This huge, heavy equipment had to be carried while the Israelites traveled through the desert.
“Then have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them” (25:8). Homes, jobs, families, and security are important, but our highest priority must be God’s presence among us.
