“When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple” (7:1). Solomon prayed that the Temple would become the place where the Israelites (and foreigners, 6:33) met with God, and that He would always hear them - even when they had sinned, experienced the consequences, and come running back to him (6:36-39). The Temple was a promise of God’s glory on earth, until the Son himself came.

The Temple was temporarily filled with God’s glory, and that same glory then came to earth in the Messiah: “so that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you” (6:33).
