“When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him ... “I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel” (9). Although the centurion was known as a good man, he still had much in common with the woman who “lived a sinful life” (37). Both were outsiders to the Jewish community – one by birth, one by lifestyle – and both humbly reached out to Jesus. They recognized what the religious Pharisee did not: the ”good news” the Messiah brings is for those who are hungry, thirsty, and needy (23).
“Which one of them will love him more?” (42). Love and devotion to Christ comes from understanding our own need and his great mercy.
