“They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over” (20). Despite having seen Jesus’ miracles, the disciples still worried about basic necessities (15). Full of compassion, Jesus multiplied bread for the crowds and later demonstrated his power over “wind and waves” for the disciples (22-33). He wanted the disciples to trust him for daily provision and care so that they would learn to trust him in the spiritual battles: temptation and persecution (1-12).
“Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid” (27). Jesus calls us to trust him and receive his courage to face life’s physical and spiritual challenges, knowing he is with us.
