I Thessalonians 5
“But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation” (v8). We are not in darkness, Paul said, or asleep (v4-7), like those who stumble around serving the idols of power, wealth, and self, thinking God doesn’t care. We are “children of light” (v6) who are called by Jesus to live “wide-awake” lives as peace-makers (v13). “Admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all” (v14) – because our King is returning (v2).
We can rejoice that God is on our side in the journey. “Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely” (v23).
