Psalm 106

“Our fathers … did not remember the abundance of your steadfast love, but rebelled by the sea” (v7). The Israelites’ example serves as both a warning and encouragement. Despite their many failures, God “redeemed them from the power of the enemy” (v10) and led them safely across the Red Sea to the Promised Land. However, after settling there, “they forgot God, their Savior” and “despised the pleasant land” (v21-24) descending into violence and idolatry. Only God’s steadfast love and mercy (v45) kept them from total destruction.

“Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the nations” (v47). God’s desire is always mercy and salvation, if we will recognize our need and receive it.
